Welcome Matters is the brainchild of Melanie Allen, an African-American woman who moved to the Twin Cities for a career opportunity in 1998. She appreciated what this community had to offer and enjoyed her work, but she and her husband never felt at home here, and they felt compelled to leave.
Their careers drew them back in 2001, and this time they were able to make the Twin Cities their home. Though it took her five years, Melanie had broken the acclimation code. She was able to establish the personal care, social and professional networks she needed to feel at home. Almost 10 years and two children later, Allen is well-established in this community, and she’s eager to share her personal experiences and success story with your new hires to help your company retain talent, meet its business goals and enrich this community with diversity.
